Description Jonathan Hoffmann 2011-04-03 18:23:18 UTC
Description of problem:

After updating to kernel 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686 the USB keyboard and mouse no longer work.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Fedora 14 with default kernel 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686. USB keyboard and mouse work.
2. Install all recommended updates and reboot.
3. At GDM login screen, keyboard and mouse do not work.

Actual results:
USB keyboard and mouse do not work.

Expected results:
USB keyboard and mouse work.

Additional info:
This is on a Sun Java Workstation w1100z. It has no PS/2 ports, only USB. I installed the 32-bit version of Fedora 14 (not the 64-bit version even though the machine is amd64).

If I choose kernel 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 from the grub menu, the USB keyboard and mouse work. The same thing happened on Ubuntu 10.10: keyboard and mouse stop working after first update.

Does this still happen with 2.6.35.14-95.fc14?

No, it does not happen with 2.6.35.14-95, it seems to be fixed.

What's weird is that before updating to 14-95, grub had 13-92, 13-91, and 11-83. If I allowed it to boot into the default of 13-92, it didn't work. But if I F8 into grub and choose 11-83 it did work (6-45 was no longer in the list). Originally 11-83 didn't work. Maybe going into grub manually changed something.

In any case, booting into 14-95 automatically does now work. Thanks for the fix.

Thanks for letting us know!

Comment 4 Jonathan Hoffmann 2011-10-08 17:47:59 UTC
This problem has re-appeared with 2.6.35.14-97. It is not a problem with 2.6.35.14-96. I tested 14-97 by letting grub choose it automatically and also by F8'ing into grub, up and down arrowing and selecting 14-97 anyway.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 21:28:02 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
