Description of problem:

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
unknown

Steps to Reproduce:
1. have a 2nd primary partition with a mount point.
2. delete partition
3. also maybe change the swap partition around a couple times or more
4. comment out UUID in fstab that still references the deleted partition in order to log back into fedora.
5. log back into fedora.

*fedora worked for hours then when I performed some move operations (with some error) files started disappearing (e.g. could not click on 'home' folder) and I powered off the machine and had no partition when machine came back on.

Actual results:

Expected results:

pon reboot, UUID of deleted partition will still be referenced in fstab and system will not boot into fedora. upon commenting out UUID, you can log in. system may work for hours but may fail later.

Additional info:

*swap partition (size)

*upon reboot

Comment 2 account22a23 2011-04-05 10:11:44 UTC
Error I got was:

fsck.ext4: Unable to resolve UUID = Y.

Fstab:

UUID = X / ext4 defaults 1 1
UUID = Y /mountpoint ext4 defaults 1 2
UUID = Z swap swap defaults 0 0

Fdisk -l:

/dev/sda1 (boot) linux
/dev/sda2 linux swap solaris
/dev/sda3 linux

blkid:

/dev/sda1: UUID=X TYPE=ext4
/dev/sda2: UUID=Z TYPE=swap
/dev/sda3: UUID=A TYPE=ext2

I created partition UUID = A after I got the error above, this was written on top of deleted partition UUID = Y. Above information is all from after creation of UUID = A. But, I was getting same error above before I created UUID = A.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 12:52:45 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
