Description of problem: There seems to be no way to configure GDM's behavior when multiple monitors are connected to the PC (e.g. turn off the laptop display when an external monitor is connected). Plus, the current behavior is inconsistent (i.e. sometimes it chooses one monitor to display the login window, and sometimes it chooses the other monitor). I would expect one to be able to configure its behavior in a similar way to the GNOME desktop environment. This would make it also predictable. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gdm-3.0.0-1.fc15.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Connect a monitor to a laptop. 2. Log into the GNOME desktop environment and configure it to turn off the laptop's integrated display. 3. Log out and observe the behavior. Actual results: GDM uses all available monitors, with unpredictable behavior. There is no way to configure how GDM should behave when multiple monitors are present. Expected results: One should be able to configure how GDM behaves in such conditions. Additional info:
Bump, and made even worse when the active display is on a closed laptop, as in bug 539695
This package has changed ownership in the Fedora Package Database. Reassigning to the new owner of this component.
you can login as user gdm as root set proper shell for gdm # usermod -s /bin/bash gdm delete password for gdm # passwd -d gdm or set a password for gdm # passwd gdm than login as gdm and change settings like you wish. another method which is probably better is posted here http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?p=1505055&postcount=10
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
