Description artal 2011-04-22 10:57:37 UTC
Description of problem:
The following features do not appear in kde-plasma-networkmanagement:
a- Make a connection available to all users (the menu is greyed)
b- Connecting to internet via Cellular connection
c- Apply an openvpn connection

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kde-plasma-networkmanagement-0.9-0.40.20110323.fc14.i686

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:

For "connection available to all users"
1. Edit the connection
2. The menu appears for "system connection" but it is greyed out
3.

For "cellular connection"
1. Create a connection with the given data (the same as in nm-applet)
2. Try to connect
3.

For "openvpn" (see "cellular connection")

Actual results:

For "connection available to all users": it is not possible to mark the case
(it works for nm-applet)

For "cellular connection": no answers (for nm-applet a pop-up window asking for the PIN appears and the connection works)

For "openvpn": no connection (no problem with nm-applet)

Expected results:
The connections should work like with nm-applet

We know. This is not even expected to work, the feature is just not implemented in the version of kde-plasma-networkmanagement currently in Fedora 14. This feature got implemented upstream very recently, there may be an update adding this feature soon.

> b- Connecting to internet via Cellular connection

This is supposed to work. Do you have ModemManager installed? (It's required for that feature.)

> c- Apply an openvpn connection

Is kde-plasma-networkmanagement-openvpn installed? (It's required for that feature.)

Ok. Great news!

ModemManager-0.4-4.git20100720.fc14.i686 is installed. I think that the problem
is related with asking the PIN of the modem.

It is installed

I made a mistake concerning vpn; I use openconnect with nm-applet, but I do not find this option with kde-plasma-networkmanagement

Comment 5 David Woodhouse 2011-09-20 11:13:37 UTC
For openconnect support in kde-plasma-networkmanagement see bug #717250. There are packages in F-15 updates-testing.

Comment 6 Kevin Kofler 2011-09-20 13:33:12 UTC
Right. You'll need the latest build in updates-testing (0.59.20110919git.nm09) for it to actually work properly though. (That's one of the reasons why it hasn't made it out of testing yet.) I'll also add that for technical reasons (upstream only implemented this feature for NetworkManager 0.9, not 0.8), this can only be supported from Fedora 15 onwards, it is NOT supported in Fedora 14.

As for your other 2 points:

> a- Make a connection available to all users (the menu is greyed)

This has been supported on all supported Fedora releases since the 20110616 builds (0.41.1.20110616git.fc14, 0.53.20110616git.nm09.fc15).

> b- Connecting to internet via Cellular connection

That leaves this one: Again, in principle, it's supposed to work. Have you tested with a current build (e.g. 0.59.20110919git.nm09) whether this is fixed? If not, can you please retry it now with the 0.59.20110919git.nm09 build?

Comment 7 artal 2011-09-20 13:54:16 UTC
I will check tonight this new build. Up to now I was able to connect to openconnect sessions via kde-plasma-networkmanagement as far as the connection was created with nm-applet.

I checked this

There are some progress. A dialog box ask me for unblocking the sim card but it does not work. With a sim card unblocked by nm-applet, kde-plasma-networkmanagement works. I'll try also this feature in the new build.

Comment 8 artal 2011-09-20 20:18:06 UTC
I checked the new build and it is OK for openconnect; same status for cellular connection. By the way, I am using fc15

Comment 9 Kevin Kofler 2011-09-20 21:02:23 UTC
So the only thing still not working is the cellular connection, right? As I said, it's supposed to be working. I cannot find a corresponding bug report at https://bugs.kde.org/ , can you please file one (against "Network Management")?
