yes, you're right, it is caused by the pass parameter. in our code, we will change the pass to <span class="whiteongreen">pass</span> so the output.log will be: Boot Parameters: ro root=UUID=b73f9e73-830f-44bc-820d-4ee96dc0c12c rd_NO_LUKS rd_NO_LVM rd_NO_MD rd_NO_DM LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=us crashkernel=128M rhgb quiet <span class = "whiteongreen">pass</span> and the code will parse Boot Parameters, changes all the special parameter to a <span class = "whiteonyellow">$&</span> format then it treat the "<span" as a boot paramter, so causes the chaos
