Description joern 2011-05-02 00:53:03 UTC
Description of problem:
When downloading the Fedora 15-Beta iso, you are advised to verify the iso
after download. However, the link only leads to a Fedora 14 checksum file.

Comment 1 Andre Robatino 2011-05-02 12:45:19 UTC
The checksum file should be found in the same directory as the corresponding ISO (whether using direct download or the official torrents). The verify page currently only says "To verify your ISO, start by downloading the proper CHECKSUM file into the same directory as the ISO:" and I've seen a few other people not know where the checksum file was so maybe the documentation should be tweaked.

All right, so I went back to the get-prerelease download page, used
'copy link location' on the download link that I had used, pasted that
into a new browser tab, removed the filename at the end, hit enter, and
then I could see the directory from which I could download the
Fedora-15-Beta-i386-CHECKSUM file.

Is that what everybody is supposed to do, or is there a simpler and/or more
obvious way?

No, it goes on to list the various kinds of install media, and each item is a
link to the corresponding Fedora 14 Checksum file.

I had tried, in turn, to change the Fedora-14 part of the link into
Fedora-15, Fedora-15-beta and Fedora-15-Beta, but to no avail.

While you are at it, you might also tweak it to encourage people to read the
'common bugs' link *before* verifying the install media for i686 installs.

I wasted a lot of time thinking my DVD-RW media were soiled, defect or
not properly supported by the DVD burning programs and ended up burning a
DVD-R before suspecting the test utility and resorting to cmp .
If the install had been less painful, I might have felt inclined / had time
to investigate why / document how Xorg doesn't work right with dual display,
and see If I can somehow make the new Gnome UI work for me or resurrect the
old one.
For the time being, I'm back now to Fedora 13, where stuff actually works
on my system (apart from sporadic (recoverable) display driver crashes).

We have updated the repository [1]. This should be available next website build, which is in about an hour.

Thanks for reporting this.

Checksums appear to be freely available for current supported releases of Fedora.
