Description joern 2011-05-02 08:09:42 UTC
Description of problem:

I have MS Windows XP, Fedora core 3 and Fedora 13 installed on an hdd
connected as primary master.
On the secondary master hdd, I've installed Fedora 15-Beta.
During installation, the MS Windows XP was auto-detected as a possible
choice, labeled "Other". I've changed the label to be more descriptive,
and added an entry for the Fedora 13 installation.
I've changed the BIOS boot order from floppy/CD/hdd-0 to floppy/CD/hdd-1 .
Yet with this setup I can't boot into anything but Fedora 15-Beta.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

0.97-71.fc15

How reproducible:

Select anything but 'Fedora' in the grub menu

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot
2. wait for the grub menu
3. before the timeout expires, get off the default selection "Fedora", and
   select something else.

Actual results:

When selecting MS Windows XP:
A blinking cursor in the upper left corner of the screens, system hangs.

When selecting Fedora13:
Displays:
Error 13: invalid or unsupported executable format.

Press any key to continue...

When pressing a key, it returns to the grub menu.

Expected results:

Booting into the selected OS.

Additional info:

The older Linux partitions use ext3.

Sometime around Fedora 10 or 11 the drive designators in Linux
(sda / sdb / sdc) started to make a merry dance from reboot to reboot.

My impression so far of the new user interface is that it is a toy and not
fit for serious work. I.e. dual screens don't work (too many colours?),
the remaining screen real estate is inefficiently used, not enough virtual
desktops. I don't have memory to throw at virtualization, so having working multi-way boot would be the next best thing to switch between a working and
an experimental system.

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 18:03:31 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
