/var/log/messages

Description of problem:

Most of the time, when HSDPA USB modem is connected, Network Manager doesn't notify it. NM doesn't prompt the code to unlock it, and it doesn't appear in the liste of available connections.
The device is recognized by usb_modeswitch, and configured as USB Modem.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

NetworkMnager-0.8.999-2.git20110509.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:

Not always, but very often. I didn't find find what caused a change of behaviour.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect HSDAP USB device

Actual results:

Nothing happend for end user. /var/log/messages show that usb_modeswitch has reconfigured the device as a modem. No broadband connection available in Network Manager applet.

Expected results:

Pop-up asking for the code to unlock the device. Broadband connection avalaible in Network Manager applet.

Modem detection is handled by ModemManager, so we'll need to find out what MM is doing. For that, grab a root terminal and:

1) mv /usr/sbin/modem-manager /
2) killall -TERM modem-manager
3) unplug your HSDPA stick
4) /modem-manager --debug
5) plug your stick in and wait for it to show up in NetworkManager; if it does show up (ie, the bug is not reproduced) then unplug it, wait 5 seconds, replug it, etc
6) when you've reproduced the bug, copy the modem-manager debug output from the terminal and attach it to this bug report

When you're all done, you can:

mv /modem-manager /usr/sbin/modem-manager

and stuff will be back to normal.

I have this problem also in fedora 16. Dan, do you need the modem-manager debug information or is a kwnown problem?

Thanks!

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 15:59:18 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
