its worth noting that about an hour after the thunderbird crash that the update-applet showed up on the applet bar.

that is probably random but over time it seems like a lot of issues seem to happen in close proximity to the update icon popping up.

i just retried the paste of the text/graphics that seemed to crash the thunderbird email i had been editing and it didnt cause any problem.

so i still wonder if the issue was related to the update-applet icon appearance.

this is something that was in var log messages from the approximate time of the thunderbird crash:

Fedora 14 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-12-08. Fedora 14 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
