Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue. Please add drm.debug=0x04 to the kernel command line, restart computer, and attach * your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available), * X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) * output of the dmesg command, and * system log (/var/log/messages) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above. We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information. Thanks in advance.
Despite my best efforts I am not finding the kernel command line. Please advise where I can find that line so that I can then append the debug command. The system is so locked that I cannot find my way in. Once I am able to do this then I shall attach the several files.
I have just done clean install on another disk the only difference is that I chose not to have internet access during install. But very mysteriously the display is now correct. Also I do have choice between 800x600 and 1024x600 however I shall reinstall again on the first disk and see if that is still wrong, in which case I should do the debug. I am not happy when I see this sort of irregularity and we do need to get to the bottom of it.
THank you, I am waiting for your analysis.
After several clean re-installs I now have a system running and with the correct resolution. I have not been able to repeat the wrong resolution setting. On two occasions I chose to install first and to do the updates after re-booting. This was disaster as I got kernel panic and stack dump both times. I have now had a stack dump following 3 installs of the system. Very discouraging as this is something I am just not used to. With allowing updates during install it is OK. However there are some screens I have to deal with where the resolution has to be set manually they do report correctly. I have experienced this problem with the cheaper Acer monitors. In fact I have had to resort to knowledge from Acer in order to be able to set the resolution correctly. So my original problem about setting the resolution is valid as otherwise fedora15 cannot be used with some screens. I will also appreciate knowledge of just how to add the debug command to the kernel line. I have just not discovered any way to edit grub in this system. However, for the moment I do have the system running apparently well but the problems I have encountered do make me a little nervous.
(In reply to comment #5) > I will also appreciate knowledge of just how to add the debug command to the > kernel line. I have just not discovered any way to edit grub in this system. See the comment 1: > add drm.debug=0x04 to the kernel command line you can actually do it without editing /etc/grub.conf by entering the kernel command line. If you get grub menu (for illustration see http://dailypackage.fedorabook.com/uploads/2007-12-04-rescue-mode-boot.png, but not exactly, this is from older version of Fedora), then by pressing key [a] or [Tab] you get to editing kernel command line, where you can add that drm.debug=0x04 string. This setting is not persistent, so you have to repeat next time you reboot the system. In case you won't get grub menu automatically, you may get there by pressing almost any key in the moment the screen is dark BEFORE the graphical boot starts. Looking forward to the results of your digging in. Thank you
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
