Description Hugo Connery 2011-06-07 20:33:46 UTC
This is not a bug, but a description of significant degredations in the User Inferface for FC15.

Sorry. Would you please re-enter this 'feedback' in the relevant manner so that it can be known to the relevant person(s).

I am not a 'normal' user, but a network and systems admin. I've been using RedHat/Fedora since RedHat 7.

With the GNOME shell or, 'Traditional GNOME with Compiz' the following lack of features have caused me to re-install FC14:

- Virtual Desktop: one cannot have two 'rows' of one's virtual desktops. One row is fine, two rows not possible.

- There is no availability of the 'quick' launch (add icons to the panel). Instead one must first click on something and then have the opportunity to get what one wants. (One more 'click') I.e the 'panel' exists no longer. It
is locked.

- Using the GNOME shell, I cannot successfully both run and navigate multiple applications of the same type. E.g a terminal window. Try using 4 Terminals in two virtual desktops (2 in each).

- I could not find a way to run a systems monitor (minimised) a la the previous GNOME. Yes, Systems monitor is available as a 'windowed' application. I would like it running always in the 'panel' as is possible in FC14.

- Could not find an easy way to change the desktop background

My sum total feedback is that FC15 may well be nice for my grandma, but it prevents me from CHOOSING what I want. Panel gone, and easy access to customisation also gone.

Back to FC14.

I attach a screenshot of my desktop (FC14). Note:

- 8 (4 x 2) desktops
- system monitor in panel

Regards, Hugo

It's by design. you can switch to a different DE if you don't like it.

Also, gnome 3 allows more powerful customization by shell extensions, see some examples at
