Description of problem: With previous releases of Fedora, a 1050p display (like 1400x1050 or 1680x1050) is sufficient to stack a slim control panel and three xterms (with standard 24 lines * 80 characters size and default font) vertically, with all four (or actually 7 or 10 if you count all xterms that go side-by-side) fully usable. With fedora 15, the title bar on top of the xterm is too fat, and with 3d-effects there is also a shadow that reduces legibility of the 'lower' windows (and the what is on top is not really a proper control panel). Without 3d-effects, there is an additional strip at the bottom which is not available for applications. Either way, you effectively use one third of usable screen real estate on each virtual desktop. This is made worse by and is making worse the general problem with having & switching between multiple virtual desktops with the new shell. Which desktop environment or window manager do you use?
I have been using the Gnome shell that came by default with the Fedora 15 'Graphical desktop' installation. Is there a way to switch to something else using Fedora 15, short of downloading Fedora 14 or fvwm sources, and configuring and installing all by hand? I'm currently installing Fedora 14.
Ok, reassigning to gnome-shell. You can switch to another desktop, like KDE, XFCE or LXDE.
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
