Description James 2011-06-23 21:48:44 UTC
Description of problem:
Using VNC to access a remote desktop running GNOME Shell, upon unlocking the screen it often appears blank apart from the bar at the top and the blinking cursor of the terminal. Resizing the viewer window can *sometimes* provoke a more complete redraw. Similarly, visiting the GNOME Shell overview seems to only get partially drawn.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-3.0.2-1.fc15.x86_64
vino-3.0.2-2.fc15.x86_64

Reproducibility:
Consistently, when unlocking the screen.

Comment 1 Jonathan Kamens 2011-07-18 20:34:41 UTC
Make sure you've got all F15 updates. There have been updates that have made remote desktop work a lot better, especially if you've got an NVidia graphics card.

Comment 2 James 2011-07-18 21:01:06 UTC
Everything is up-to-date. My machines are using Intel graphics.

Comment 3 Ganapathi Kamath 2011-08-05 20:57:48 UTC
After entering the activities view by clicking the activities button in top left corner, Screen updates become partial incomplete and do not propagate screen changes. It seems something to do with the 3D graphics system doing the transition and taking over. Otherwise, operation seems fine while working
on a single application like a browser.

$ rpm -qa | egrep -i "vino|kernel-2|gnome-shell|mutter"
gnome-shell-3.0.2-4.fc15.x86_64
vino-3.0.2-2.fc15.x86_64
kernel-2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64
mutter-3.0.2.1-1.fc15.x86_64

$ uname -a
Linux sirius.localdomain 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Jul 29 18:46:53 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ lspci | egrep -i "Radeon HD"
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series
01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RV620 Audio device [Radeon HD 34xx Series]

Reproducibility
consistent.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-06 20:07:07 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
