Description of problem: I was trying to use yum update on an x86_64 Fedora 14 machine to update gsoap to the Fedora 15 version, but I forgot that I also needed to update gsoap-devel. Yum confusingly tried to install the i686 version of gsoap from Fedora 14 instead of complaining that the dependencies of gsoap-devel would be broken. I'm not sure if this is a bug in yum or in the dependencies between gsoap-devel and gsoap. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): yum-3.2.28-7.fc14.noarch gsoap-2.7.16-1.fc14.x86_64 gsoap-devel-2.7.16-1.fc14.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. yum install gsoap gsoap-devel 2. yum update http://mirror.netrino.co.uk/mirror.fedora.com/releases/15/Everything/x86_64/os/Packages/gsoap-2.7.17-3.fc15.x86_64.rpm Actual results: ================================================================================ Package Arch Version Repository Size ================================================================================ Updating: gsoap x86_64 2.7.17-3.fc15 /gsoap-2.7.17-3.fc15.x86_64 1.0 M Installing for dependencies: gsoap i686 2.7.16-1.fc14 fedora 205 k Expected results: Since the installed gsoap-devel is an x86_64 package, I would expect an error about its dependencies not being resolved by the update. Additional info: It works if I update gsoap-devel from the Fedora 15 repo at the same time.
This isn't an error ... just confusing. Latest yum has a protected_multilib configuration, which makes yum error out here.
