Description of problem: I cannot rename a file in Nautilus as a normal user. The permissions are not the issue. If I right click the file and select rename it the window flashes and that's it. If I run nautilus as root I can rename the file. Also if I rename the files in terminal as a normal user or in root nautlius once the file has been renamed the thumbnails display correctly in root nautilus but in nautilus running as a normal user the thumbnail still shows the old image, even after a reboot. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 15 Nautilus 3.0.2 How reproducible: Right click on a file and rename - nothing happens as normal user Rename the file in terminal as normal user - nautilus doesn't display the correct thumbnail image Additional info:
I too have the same issue with exception to the location of the files. Files in my home folder can be renamed as normal but files on a cifs or nfs share can not. -also- if i "ssh -X root@server nautilus" I still can not rename the same files even though the files should technically be 'local' and I am performing the command as root... <insert twilight zone music> :)
Well, I have been going through renaming my Invader Zim episodes and can confirm that trying to rename files in the first column, I always use compact view, works but the above bug is relevant for the second and more columns of files.. Peter, do you get the same behaviour and do you use compact view?
I have since worked this one out...for my case at least Using a combination of nautilus opened as a normal and root user, created the issue. Once I changed the owner for all files and folders in the home directory it resolved the issue. Your particular issue for the ntfs share might just be the share permissions, however if you can rename on the ntfs share as root and not as a normal user it could be something else but more than likely it is how the share has been created or how you are connecting to it that is the problem. Where are the invader zim files you are having issue with located?
