Description Gene Snider 2011-07-01 21:24:23 UTC
SELinux is preventing /usr/libexec/abrt-hook-ccpp from using the 'sys_ptrace' capabilities.

***** Plugin catchall (100. confidence) suggests ***************************

If you believe that abrt-hook-ccpp should have the sys_ptrace capability by default.
Then you should report this as a bug.
You can generate a local policy module to allow this access.
Do
allow this access for now by executing:
# grep abrt-hook-ccpp /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol
# semodule -i mypol.pp

This started showing after fixing the libreport bug found here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=718347

I run Fedora 15 KDE with updates-testing enabled. I have the latest setroubleshooter. I'm posting this as a me too, and, wondering if the two bugs are interrelated.

> updates-testing enabled

It is this,

  https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/selinux-policy-3.9.16-32.fc15

in updates-testing. Downgrade to the previous -30.fc15 release in updates.

Comment 4 Daniel Walsh 2011-07-06 21:03:41 UTC
Why are you calling this a Denial of Service.

chcon -t bin_t /usr/libexec/abrt*

Should fix the problem.

I have removed these labels from Rawhide and F16 policy.

Fixed in selinux-policy-3.9.16-33.fc15

Comment 5 Michael Schwendt 2011-07-06 21:20:14 UTC
> Why are you calling this a Denial of Service.

Because with -32.fc15 ABRT doesn't manage to catch any crashes anymore. It doesn't even store them, so a backtrace could be regenerated later. And after fixing it with the help of setroubleshooter, it might work again, but at least one crash will be missing in ABRT.

Comment 6 nomnex 2011-07-15 07:56:10 UTC
Fedora 15 LXDE here. I was tagging audio file with Puddletag when a crash occured and Selinux alert kicked-in.

Shall I run chcon -t bin_t /usr/libexec/abrt*

From what I see I have selinux-policy-3.9.16-32.fc15 what's the command to update to selinux-policy-3.9.16-33.fc15. Forgive to as two questions in raw, but the crash is "always" when I use a function of the audio tag editor puddletag. And I am in the middle of a work.

I updated to the test version:

 selinux-policy-3.9.16-34.fc15.noarch
 selinux-policy-targeted-3.9.16-34.fc15.noarch

Now I get this in /var/log/messages

Jul 16 12:58:08 moria abrt[29821]: Unrecognized variable 'DumpLocation' in '/etc/abrt/abrt.conf'
Jul 16 12:58:08 moria abrtd: Unrecognized variable 'DumpLocation' in '/etc/abrt/abrt.conf'
Jul 16 12:58:08 moria abrt[29821]: saved core dump of pid 29819 (/dev/shm/a.out) to /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-2011-07-16-12:58:08-29819.new/coredump (9101312 bytes)
Jul 16 12:58:08 moria abrtd: Directory 'ccpp-2011-07-16-12:58:08-29819' creation detected
Jul 16 12:58:08 moria abrtd: Corrupted or bad dump /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-2011-07-16-12:58:08-29819 (res:2), deleting

I get no core file and no notification. This is particularly unhelpful when developing my own software and trying to produce a core file to debug.

Comment 12 Jonathan Wakely 2011-07-16 12:32:08 UTC
^ that seems to be Bug 715456 though I'm not sure what the status of that is
