Description of problem: After upgrading to Fedora 14 I have had trouble getting my wifi card to work, the following from /var/log/messages shows the problem of the wrong firmware being loaded into the wifi card. Jul 13 16:23:15 localhost kernel: [10124.347214] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket1: pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 1 Jul 13 16:23:15 localhost kernel: [10124.347668] pcmcia 1.0: pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia1.0 (IRQ: 3) Jul 13 16:23:16 localhost kernel: [10125.031849] eth1: Atmel at76c50x. Jul 13 16:23:18 localhost kernel: [10126.592817] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready Also udevadm shows the same. UDEV [1310571534.895213] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:11.1/1.0/firmware/1.0 (firmware) UDEV_LOG=3 ACTION=add DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:11.1/1.0/firmware/1.0 SUBSYSTEM=firmware FIRMWARE=atmel_at76c502.bin ASYNC=0 SEQNUM=1547 I search the web and tried various entries in "/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules" with no luck. The prefered method appears to be adding an entry into "/etc/modprobe.d", so I created a file atmel.conf and tried the following configurations, neither of which caused the correct firmware to be loaded. options atmel firmware=atmel_at76c502e-wpa.bin and options atmel_cs firmware=atmel_at76c502e-wpa.bin My current solution is; mv /lib/firmware/atmel_at76c502.bin /lib/firmware/atmel_at76c502.bin.old ln -s /lib/firmware/atmel_at76c502e-wpa.bin /lib/firmware/atmel_at76c502.bin Which works but will be wiped if the firmware package is upgraded Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Very Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Vanilla Fedora 14 2.Insert PCMCIA Card 3. Actual results: Firmware atmel_at76c502.bin is loaded into wifi card Expected results: atmel_at76c502e-wpa.bin loaded into card Additional info:
Does the wifi card worked previously with an older version of fedora ?
Can you give the output of "lspcmcia info" with the card inserted ? Does the problem is still reproduced with current kernel?
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
