Description of problem: I use puddle tag. Totem is part of the dependencies. When Totem plays files, Visual effects is always enabled. It can be turned off for the session, but the preference setting is forgotten on close. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Totem (v. 3.0.1.) How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Totem > prefs > Visualisation OFF 2. Close Totem 3. Open Totem: Visualisation is back on song play Additional info: More an annoyance than anything else, but annoyances often hitch.
Update previous comment: major annoyance on a older notebook. Vizualisation is killing my CPU. I must visit the prefs. any single time I play a new track. Is there an easy way to remove/disable visualization editing any of the file in /usr/share/totem/,or would "# yum erase libvisual" be a workaround, not to be bother no more? Still a minor bug, though.

Correction: Totem is a dependency of Shotwell (gnome photo manager), not Puddletag.
Same problem with totem: GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Will there be a fix for this issue? It is rather annoying.
I got the solution. For the settings to be saved for further sessions you need to install dconf. I think it should be added to the dependencies. I installed dconf and it kept all my settings even after reboot.

I have a similar problem with Evince on LXDE: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728139. It could be related.
Well I am not a professional in this type of stuff, but I consider myself an enthusiast. I did a bit of research and looking at the errors posted in this bug-report it is glib related. I was certain that glib2 is installed. While I was reading some stuff up on glib I found that dconf provides the back-end to the gsettings api in glib. I looked up dconf and it wasn't installed. But I must say even though it saves settings etc. which is great, I still get a load of errors on exiting from totem. But my media play just fine, video and audio are absolutely perfect. The thing with the screensaver is really annoying. ** (totem:2266): WARNING **: Problem inhibiting the screensaver: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner: Name "org.gnome.SessionManager" does not exist (totem:2266): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (totem:2266): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_handlers_disconnect_matched: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed (totem:2266): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (totem:2266): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_handlers_disconnect_matched: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed (totem:2266): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (totem:2266): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_handlers_disconnect_matched: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed (totem:2266): Totem-CRITICAL **: totem_object_get_ui_manager: assertion `TOTEM_IS_OBJECT (totem)' failed (totem:2266): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_ui_manager_remove_ui: assertion `GTK_IS_UI_MANAGER (manager)' failed (totem:2266): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_ui_manager_remove_action_group: assertion `GTK_IS_UI_MANAGER (manager)' failed >totem "/media/Storage/Videos/hello.avi" (2266) returned '0'
okay, thank. same error on exit here.
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
