Description bmqawsed4 2011-07-16 21:36:24 UTC
Description of problem:

Box is near-new (still under warranty) Dell Vostro 230, which uses Broadcom BCM57788.

Fed-14 (Software Development package set) installed without problems and connected to internet (wired) without problems.

Wanted to test Fed-15, so installed it.
Install seemed to go ok, but, as disliked desktop, reverted to Fed-14.
Fed-14 does not now want to connect to internet.
However, Win-7 install does connect to internet.
All Dell diagnostics work ok.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

On every re-install of Fed-14, including media check on DVD.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Standard install of Fed-14 from DVD created from downloaded iso.
2. Install Fed-15
3. Re-install Fed-14

Actual results:
No internet connection.

Expected results:
Live internet connection.

Additional info:
Since win-7 worked, does the Fed-15 install write stuff into nvram maintained for BCM57788 (used by Fed-14 but not by win-7)?
The problem affects Fed-14, but suggest caused by Fed-15.

Comment 1 bmqawsed4 2011-08-12 09:18:01 UTC
Failure occurs with hub 'BT Homehub'.
Live internet connection established with different hub.
Found references on web to a firmware change for BT Homehub causing this failure with Linux. My BT Homehub uses the suspect version of the firmware.

Therefore, failure not considered a bug with Fedora.
