Xorg.0.log

Description of problem:

Fresh Fedora 15 on a Hp laptop dv6-3194

A soon I connect an external monitor via the VGA port, both the laptop LCD display and the external monitor goes off then on every 20 seconds.
This happens immediately when the monitor is connected before or after booting and without configuring it.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Kernel: 2.6.38.6-26.rc1.fc15.i686.PAE

Xorg:
org-x11-drivers-7.4-2.fc15.i686
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.14.1-2.20110525gitfe5c42f51.fc15.i686
xorg-x11-server-common-1.10.3-1.fc15.i686

Graphic card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood [Radeon HD 5600 Series]

How reproducible:
With my config, all the time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.On a laptop, connect an external monitor via the VGA port.
2.
3.

Actual results:
Both laptop LVDS and external monitor are flashing every 20 seconds.
Impossible to change the LVDS and monitor configuration.

Expected results:
Stop flashing and be able to configure LVDS and monitor.

Additional info:

I installed the kmod as explained here:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503&highlight=kmod+akmod+ati
and the problem disappears. But this is not the good solution because the definition is limited to 1600x1600 and I need 2048x1536

This problem does not occurs with the same PC+monitor on a fresh Fedora 14. This means that the ATI chip and the monitor are OK.

Also tested on Ubuntu 11.4 with he same config without problems.

See Xorg.0.log for more details.

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 14:44:55 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
