Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description of problem:

multi disks indexes in a random order when installing win2008r2

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2-2.171.el6.x86_64
seabios-0.6.1.2-3.el6.x86_64

How reproducible:
mostly

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start a win2008r2 installation with multi disks (cmd tooooo long , will attached as a text file)
2.select a disk to install win08r2,after reboot,guest may not continue installation [disks may not the same order as last boot]
3.FYI,all images' size incrementally(storage1.raw == 1G ,storage2.raw == 2G ,etc)
  
Actual results:
disks index  may  not always same when running win2008r2 installer.(see attached pic)
that results installation fail 
Expected results:
disk index do not changed when guest reboot .

Additional info:
if use a pre-installed win2008r2 image , boot with multiple disk,works fine.   4/4
Linux guest works fine when install with multiple disks  2/2

Does windows installation menu shows you all virtio disks? Do you see that same problem with only 5 virtio disks?

Yes, it shows me all virtio disks

I tested 4 virtio, does not happen, will try 5

Hi Gleb,
This bug is funny :) 
   in my tests, it always appear when guest have more that 10 disks.it seems the sequences are in octal. pls see attached octal_index.png

   when boot guest with 3 ~ 10 disk,win guest show me disks in such order
index5..(index6,index7..).... index0,index4 

   ONLY when boot guest with 2 disks,win guest will show the index0 disk as the first disk.

Funny observation about Win8. We probably can't do anything about it.

After installation, the disks don't appear at different letters. So, it's not a problem.
