The issue seems to be that ModeShape does not know how to deal with base64Binary encoded values. In the Guvnor repository xml for mortgages: <sv:node sv:name="ApplicantDsl"> <sv:property sv:name="jcr:primaryType" sv:type="Name"> <sv:value>drools:assetNodeType</sv:value> </sv:property> ..... <sv:property sv:name="drools:content" sv:type="String"> <sv:value xsi:type="xs:base64Binary">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 </sv:value> </sv:property> ...... </sv:node> I will try to change this to just string value in the export xml and it should help, also will file a MS Jira as seems to be a missing feature currently.
Ideally this should be fixed in Modeshape. If this is not possible at all, we may need to tackle it in the Sample. But lets make sure we put that as a known issue that 64bit encoding works only with JackRabbit and not currently in Modeshape
can we get the example files used and how one would duplicate.

I created MODE-1026 an put this: **** Attached the repository xml Guvnor is using as the samples repository. Let me know if you need anything else? The steps on how to reproduce this error are described in https://access.redhat.com/kb/docs/DOC-43075 **** let me know if you need anything else.

Attachment: Removed: MODE-1026-fix-test.patch
The fix for MODE-1026 has been committed into our SVN (both trunk and the '2.2.x' branch). I've also attached a src patch and test patch to the issue, in case they are needed to create a patch JAR. If this fixes the import issue, please mark MODE-1026 as resolved/closed; otherwise, please provide more information regarding the new failure.
