Description of problem: When booting, the display gets corrupted when switching to graphics mode. The background is black with many vertical colored lines. Once in this state, the computer is virtually unusable. It boots normally, proceeding to the X login (I can hear the audio "ready for login" prompt). I can even type in my password and log in, blindly. However none of these things are displayed on the screen. Ctrl-Alt-Function keys do not get me to a terminal. The pci=nomsi kernel parameter seems to have no effect. All I can see is the vertical colored lines. However, if I suspend or hibernate the computer, I can then resume and reliably get a working display. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): I frankly don't know if this is a kernel bug, or an X driver bug, so I've supplied both below. The display is always b0rk3d on boot, and always fixed on suspend/resume. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot laptop with default kernel parameters 2. Screen is black with vertical lines 3. Suspend/Hibernate 4. Resume 5. Display is fully functional. Additional info: I have installed Fedora Core 15 (Lovelock) on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. Please add drm.debug=0x04 to the kernel command line, restart computer, relogin, and attach (if necessary after suspend/resume cycle) * your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available), * X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log*; check with grep Backtrace /var/log/Xorg* which logs might be the most interesting ones, send us at least Xorg.0.log) * output of the dmesg command, and * system log (/var/log/messages) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above.
