Is the address book file in your TB profile set to read only?

additional info: seems only happen if you want to change the content if misc ("Sonstiges" in german) where i have placed customer-ids for business contacts if i only change basic-informations it seems to work
Do you still see the bug, in the latest Thunderbird 12? If so, please reopen the report.
after delete half of my profile it works again strange things happening in the latest releases like after each upate half of the UI appear in english instead german (folder names) and after disable german, restart and enable again all si fine
It's always good to test it with new profile and in safe mode, when all addons are disabled. So does it work okay for you now?

I had this same problem. I eventually realized that the only contacts that could not be edited were ones with pictures. If I deleted the picture, I could then save my edits.
I can confirm that this still happens with contacts that have a large-ish picture . Clicking "OK" to save the contact after editing does nothing; the button clicks but the window doesn't close. If I close the window with the X button, the changes aren't saved. It seems to only happen for contacts with big profile pictures. Some contacts with profile pictures can be successfully edited. It also happens when editing contacts with an add-on like "Contact Tabs 2.0"; clicking "Save" in that addon also does nothing, for the same problem contacts.
Also I should mention I'm using TB 17.0.4, Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.
