no excessive CPU activity for FF while this is happening

Comment 2 Charles Crouch 2011-10-13 15:40:18 UTC
(10:29:01 AM) ccrouch: mfoley: can you put more detail around the steps to reproduce
(10:29:11 AM) mfoley: it is as simple as what i have written
(10:29:15 AM) mfoley: top-level menu
(10:29:18 AM) mfoley: administration
(10:29:29 AM) mfoley: mouse-over ... edit template
(10:29:52 AM) mfoley: which step needs clarity?
(10:31:22 AM) ccrouch: so you mean
(10:31:25 AM) jsanda: ccrouch: i'm able to reproduce just as easily
(10:31:46 AM) ccrouch: it locks on the mouse over itself?
(10:32:05 AM) mfoley: well ...mouseover then shows an icon
(10:32:10 AM) mfoley: edit template
(10:32:17 AM) mfoley: which when you click ... the hang occurs
(10:32:42 AM) ccrouch: ok
(10:32:52 AM) ccrouch: so its on loading the alert template
(10:32:57 AM) ccrouch: what about metric templates
(10:33:00 AM) ccrouch: does it lock there?
(10:33:08 AM) mfoley: yes
(10:33:16 AM) mfoley: and no clientside error
(10:33:25 AM) mfoley: and no supporting evidence in the server logs
(10:33:43 AM) ccrouch: so we should rename the bug?
(10:33:54 AM) mfoley: ah
(10:33:54 AM) ccrouch: if its happening on both types of templates
(10:33:58 AM) mfoley: i misread your post
(10:34:00 AM) mfoley: no ...
(10:34:04 AM) mfoley: not metric templates
(10:34:09 AM) ccrouch: ok
(10:34:26 AM) mfoley: but let me retest and double-check that right now
(10:34:45 AM) mfoley: metric templates are fine
(10:35:13 AM) ccrouch: mfoley: how long did you wait with the UI locked?
(10:35:36 AM) mfoley: maybe as long as 30 seconds
(10:35:47 AM) mfoley: then it seems hopeless ... and i close the browser tab
(10:35:51 AM) ccrouch: you should probably open up another browser and wait 10mins
(10:36:01 AM) ccrouch: we may be able to get some txn timeouts
(10:36:11 AM) ccrouch: in the server log
(10:36:18 AM) ccrouch: that may help route cause it
(10:36:35 AM) mfoley: i added the server log to the BZ
(10:37:01 AM) mfoley: and ... no excessive CPU activity for FF while this is happening
(10:37:03 AM) ccrouch: right but you said there was nothing in there :-)
(10:37:10 AM) ccrouch: mfoley: ooh thats important
(10:37:29 AM) ccrouch: so re: server logs if we wait long enough, i.e. 10mins, something may appear
(10:37:35 AM) mfoley: well ... i added the server log to show the absence of errors in the server log
(10:37:57 AM) ccrouch: right, so we need to see if we can tickle it into producing something helpful :-)
(10:38:30 AM) ccrouch: (10:37:35 AM) mfoley: well ... i added the server log to show the absence of errors in the server log
(10:38:30 AM) ccrouch: thats virtually always a really good idea
(10:38:49 AM) ccrouch: the other key element is from sunny-dee
(10:38:57 AM) ccrouch: that this used to work until recently
(10:39:12 AM) ccrouch: sunny-dee: you said your rhq build is 2weeks old?
(10:39:38 AM) ccrouch: i've got my suspicions on the perf related alert changes

Comment 3 Jay Shaughnessy 2011-10-13 15:42:32 UTC
It doesn't lock up for me but I do get an execption if I click the New button.

Comment 4 Ian Springer 2011-10-14 19:02:11 UTC
I reproduced this, but after doing a mvn install of the whole project, restarting my Server, and clearing my browser's cache, I was no longer able to reproduce. Mike, please give it another try with a newer build and after clearing your browser's cache.

Comment 5 Mike Foley 2011-10-14 19:48:00 UTC
