For what purpose? To be able to provide it to the user somehow and say "your account is set up, password is XYZ, it will reset the first time you use it"?

Comment 3 Stephen Gallagher 2011-10-13 18:39:50 UTC
When setting up an account, you always have to do the following steps (excluding migrations):

1) ipa user-add
2) ipa passwd <user> - Enter a random (or not-so-random) temporary password

I think it would make sense to use something like pwgen to create the temporary password at user-creation time. This would just be one step fewer that the admin needs to perform.

Note that you can add a password at creation time with the --password option, we just don't provide a random mechanism.
