Description of problem: I used preupgrade to try to upgrade from F15 to F16 beta. This actually worked on an ExoPC tablet. I then tried to do it on my laptop. Packages were downloaded fine, then I restarted, then packages were being installed. Party way through, I encountered a fatal error when installing util-linux. Screenshots (from my camera phone) (they're in German): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xfS5MR2M4I0/TpbvjV8eVOI/AAAAAAAAbSY/grSLDqNhGgw/s640/IMG_20111013_100156.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LFV08X50d38/TpbvvCO_peI/AAAAAAAAbSo/wB-frnsG-as/s640/IMG_20111013_100200.jpg The error message in the original English should be (according to a translation file for yuminstall.py): "A fatal error occurred when installing the util-linux package. This could indicate errors when reading the installation media. Installation cannot continue." NOTE: I still have the inconsistent, unbootable root partition that I was upgrading. I can retrieve log files if they were stored there. (But not if they were stored in /boot, which I fear they were.) Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): util-linux-2.20-1.fc16.x86_64 How reproducible: I've only tried it once so far :D I then took a couple hours to create a new root partition from a Live USB disk. If desired, I can create another root partition and then trash that. Steps to Reproduce: 1. run preupgrade, upgrading to F16 beta 2. let the computer restart to update packages Actual results: at util-linux, it encountered a fatal error. Expected results: it should go all the way through. (It would be nice if there was some way to roll back an upgrade if a fatal error occurred :D) Additional info:
Can you try to update the machine again with the final F16 release? Note that anaconda provides more useful information about installation at another consoles (ctrl+alt+f<n> and alt+f<n>).
