Description of problem:

I have a storied history with this particular audio chipset.  I had the same behavior under Kubuntu 10.10, but it mysteriously disappeared under Fedora 15.  Victory, yes?  No.

So today I wake, having left music playing all night, to find it had stopped.  I attempt to start it again, but am unsuccessful.  I bounce PA (pulseaudio -k) and everything seems fine, for a moment.

Now, I am back to my original pre-Fedora behavior of the audio playing for anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 minutes, then mysteriously stopping.  It may resume on its own after some extended length of time.  If I stop and restart an audio stream, it will repeat the behavior.

How reproducible:

Difficult to decide.  I did not have this problem, as far as I could tell, for my first month with Fedora 15.  Now, out of the blue, it has recurred in identical fashion to Kubuntu 10.10.  (Reversion from Fedora 15 release kernel to current kernels?)

When it decides it wants to have an episode of failure, it's consistently reproducible, even across reboots.  When it decides to behave, it seems I may not experience it for quite some time.  Weeks, months.

I am now running with tsched=0 and, for the moment, it works again -- I cannot say how long this situation will last, as my behavior is hopelessly unpredictable!  (I never had any issues through Kubuntu 9.04, so something certainly has changed greatly in kernel land since then...)


Steps to Reproduce:

When I find I am having difficulty, it seems to be consistently reproducible.  I never solved it under Kubuntu 10.10, but mysteriously it worked in Fedora 15 until this morning.

When it's broken, it's "consistently" reproducible in that any audio stream I play seemingly goes silent after 10-60 seconds or so.  Additionally, if I play media from something I can 'stop', like say Amarok, when I give up and hit 'stop' the audio may 'finish' and fade out.  It's like the stream got 'lost' or delayed somewhere.

The audio stream goes missing.

Should work fine.
