It doesn't even support the 'xz' compression method which the rpm2cpio binary supports. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): rpm-4.9.1.2-1 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. grep xz /usr/lib/rpm/rpm2cpio.sh (or scripts/rpm2cpio.sh) Actual results: 1. Expected results: 1. unxz) ... Additional info: I have taken the liberty of adding an improved version of rpm2cpio.sh largely based one of the more recent versions floating around. Having an rpm2cpio.sh can be extremely useful when back-porting newer source rpms to older fedora systems (let's face it, an older system like fedora 7, with upgraded rpms, works just as well as, say, fedora 15 - the release numbers being merely an annoying contrivance based mostly on an arbitrary elapsed clock period).

I confirm this is still a problem with rpm-4.9.1.3-7 (Fedora 17). Besides not supporting xz, this script uses "return" instead of "exit": /usr/lib/rpm/rpm2cpio.sh: line 35: return: can only `return' from a function or sourced script
