Description Simon Farnsworth 2011-10-21 21:50:53 UTC
Description of problem:

KNode is supposed to have little balls next to the subject line of newsgroup postings, to let you distinguish threads with unread posts from threads that you've read.

Instead, I get large question marks, which mean I can only see one subject line at a time in the posts list.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
$ rpm -qi `rpm -qf /usr/bin/knode`

Comment 1 Simon Farnsworth 2011-10-27 07:47:43 UTC
Looks to be a bug in upgrading from Fedora 15 to Fedora 16 Beta; I've found a fix for me:

1) Run "System Settings"
2) Choose "Application Appearance"
3) Select the "Icons" tab.
4) Change the icon theme to Tango, and click "Apply"
5) Change the icon theme back to "Oxygen", and click "Apply".

This fixes it for me.

Perhaps it should be documented in Common Problems or similar for the final release?

Comment 2 Rex Dieter 2011-10-27 12:28:52 UTC
It's not a common bug (yet), as far as I'm aware.

Fwiw, I was seeing this on one of my fedora 14 installs, and your workaround fixed it there for me too. Odd. :-/

Comment 3 reubendb 2012-02-20 20:19:17 UTC
I have a clean install of F16, and I hit this issue. The workaround works for me
(I change the icon theme to "Fedora Default" then back to "Oxygen" since "Tango" is not on the list of themes), but it took me some searching to finally hit on this bug report (other workaround for similar issue doesn't seem to apply to Fedora). It'd be good to have this fixed. Do we know the root cause of the issue ?

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 19:29:34 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 23:18:31 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
