Description John C Peterson 2011-10-31 20:39:53 UTC
Description of problem: When trying out one of the examples of using the python bindings, the libkmlengine.so.0 shared library was not found by the dynamic linker/loader.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): libkml-0.6.1-8.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible: 100% reproducible

Steps to Reproduce:
1. cp -ip /usr/share/doc/libkml-devel-0.6.1/examples/python/helloenum.py /tmp/
2. cd /tmp
3. python helloenum.py

Actual results:

$ python helloenum.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "helloenum.py", line 32, in <module>
    import kmldom
  File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/kmldom.py", line 7, in <module>
    import _kmldom
ImportError: libkmlengine.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Expected results: It should find the shared library and produce this output:

== This is helloenum.py
Create a LookAt with altitudeMode...
lookat.has_altitudemode() True
lookat.altitudemode() 1
Yes, it is relativeToGround
Serialize it to pretty xml...
<LookAt>
  <altitudeMode>relativeToGround</altitudeMode>
</LookAt>

Additional info: This should not be hard to fix. I'm just a user, so I'm not familiar with the preferred ways to package libraries under Fedora. But, one way would be to install these libraries in /usr/lib64, /usr/lib. Another way would be to leave them where they are and include an appropriately constructed /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libkml.conf file in the package.

As a temporary fix, I just ran (as root);
# /sbin/ldconfig /usr/lib64/libkml

Comment 1 Zenon K 2012-03-12 16:09:15 UTC
Hi,

I am experiencing a similar problem in Fedora 16 -- I needed to create an entry in /etc/ld.conf.d/ to add the /usr/lib64/libkml/ directory to ldconfig.

Best regards
Zenon

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 18:07:22 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
