I'm slightly confused, because you say 3.0.8 works but don't list the kernel version you're having troubles with.

F15 is already on 3.0.x in the form of 2.6.40 updates. 2.6.40.6 is the latest stable update, which is 3.0.6. A 3.0.8 equivalent can be found in updates-testing.

Perhaps you just need to do a yum update?

The system is up to date (yum update was the first thing I did before trying other approaches). The original kernel version is 2.6.40.6-0.fc15.x86_64.

Can you try the 2.6.40.8 kernel in updates-testing?

I haven't had time to try the kernel from updates-testing yet but as a data point, 2.6.41.1-1 (that my system automatically updated itself last night) still suffers from the same problem. In fact, it seems worse. The network dropped after only a couple of minutes (with the original 2.6.40.6-0 kernel it would usually stay up unless the system became inactive for a few minutes).

Is this still happening with 2.6.43/3.3?

Comment 6 Martin Sebor 2012-06-07 15:44:05 UTC
The problem turned out to be a defective network card. After Dell replaced my motherboard the problems went away. Please feel free to close this issues.

Thanks.
