Description Krzysztof "Uosiu" Hajdamowicz 2011-11-13 16:05:33 UTC
Description of problem:
Normally i'm working on my Thinkpad R61i 8943-DKG with additional 24" LCD screen connected to VGA1. I've unplugged it, moved to my entertaiment room and connected to my 42" Sony LCD TV. Sadly was that xrandr wasn't able to change video mode of VGA port. Even killing X.org wouldn't help (I was left on tty console with syslog messages). Only reboot helped.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.16.0-2.fc16.x86_64
kernel-3.1.0-7.fc16.x86_64

How reproducible:
So far, always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Disconnect your VGA screen (1600x1200)
2. Connect TV to VGA port (1366x768)
3. try to use xrandr --output VGA1 --right-of LVDS1 --mode 1366x768

Actual results:
Video mode is not changed, VGA port not activated.

Expected results:
VGA port enabled, video mode enabled

What GPU is this with? lspci -nn -s 0:2

Do you get any error messages from xrandr when this happens?

If you boot with drm.debug=0x4 and try this, do you get any error messages in dmesg?

Comment 2 Krzysztof "Uosiu" Hajdamowicz 2011-11-14 19:55:09 UTC
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) [8086:2a02] (rev 0c)
00:02.1 Display controller [0380]: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary) [8086:2a03] (rev 0c)

I get error messages from xrandr: Can't set video mode for CRTC65.
Some lines are shown on syslog tty (CTRL+ALT+F1 probably), but I'm now after reboot and I didn't wrote them down to a paper.

More info soon.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 09:58:42 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 08:02:44 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
