Description of problem:
There is no directory /var/log/samba/connect/

Unable to open new log file '/var/log/samba/connect/samba.smbd'

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

rpm -q samba
samba-3.6.1-74.fc16.i686

tail -f /var/log/samba/log.smbd

Have you set any specific logfile setting in smb.conf ?
