Description of problem:Desktop machine goes to sleep when left alone, won't wake up except by rebooting Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Actually I have no idea which component is causing this, I just want to find out how to fix it. This started with Fedora 16 - I didn't have the trouble with F14 and I didn't play with F15 long enough to know if the problem occurred there. How reproducible: Happens most of the time when I walk away from the machine for a while Steps to Reproduce: 1.Log into desktop system 2.Go away for an hour or so 3. Actual results: Most of the time I find the monitor dark, power cycling the monitor shows it has no video signal, the green power light on the machine is on, but nothing I have tried short of holding down the power switch until it shuts off, then restarting will get the machine back up. Occasionally it varies and ctrl-alt-delete will wake it up, or just typing something on the keyboard. I have the screen saver set for one hour. Expected results: The machine should stay awake until I want to shut it down, and if it blanks the monitor it should come back with any keyboard or mouse activity. Additional info:
I tried an XFCE session and the unwanted sleep is not happening, so this must be something else that Gnome3 broke. The machine, if that matters, is HP d530 desktop. I wish somebody would respond to this or tell me where else to send it. It's annoying that I can't leave the machine for a while without having it go to sleep and then I have to power cycle it to get it back up.
Ray, Jim I can reproduce this bug all the time. I first noticed with Fedora 15 w/Gnone 3. I've loaded Fedora 16 on two different Dell computers Dimension 3000 and 4600. After Fedora is loaded it puts GNOME in the Fall Back Mode (think this is the message it give me). If I leave the computer in the GNOME screen it will lock up. What I've been doing is going to an alternated screen (CRTL-ALT-F2) then letting the computer go to sleep, after I wake wake the computer with a few spaces then do a (CTRL-ALT-F1) to get back to the GNOME screen. Is there any diagnostics that I could run on either of my two computers to help find the BUG?
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '16'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
This happens on Fedora 19 too.
