I like to be able to have the little rhythmbox applet always available in order to be able to press pause (or next, previous) without changing the current desktop. It seems this applet is available (on the bottom right) when i enable the notification plugins. Now, this plugin also generat popup whenever a new file is being played by rythmbox. This pop up appears on the bottom of the screen, just in the middle of the screen. This is exactly where the mouse cursor usually is when i use xchat (because i moved it there to get the focus on the text input used to enter chat in irc). As a result, the pop up take take the focus, my text is not send to xchat but is used for ryhtmbox with unwanted result (like getting back in the play list and so on). Would it be possible to either: - have the pop up displayed elsewhere, - or dont show any automatic pop up (but still keep the little applet in the bottom right) - or may be split the thing in 2 plugins, one for the pop up and one for the little applet ? Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): rhythmbox-2.90.1-17.git20110927.fc16.x86_64
The popup should probably not show up if there's no mouse motion towards it. It's stealing focus, and would cause even more trouble on touch devices where the position of the cursor is hidden.
May be i should have open this on the gnome bugzilla site... Looks like someone already did: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=649028
Focus stealing is actually a different GNOME bug (linked to above) - fix for that will be in a 3.2.2 bugfix update.
