Description Mads Kiilerich 2011-11-24 12:39:39 UTC
The graphical user experience when booting a Fedora live usb is usually clobbered by messages like

[ 3.451272] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
[ 3.451379] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
[ 3.457834] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
[ 3.457939] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
[ 3.465267] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
[ 3.465375] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through

Userspace could perhaps configure a different logging level or hide it, but it seems to me like the real "problem" is that these messages are logged with a wrong log level.

It seems to be quite common to have USB devices that don't like MODE SENSE with page=0x3f and it isn't a real problem, so I guess these messages should be KERN_NOTICE instead of KERN_ERR.

I doubt this will be accepted upstream. Closing this out.
