Description of problem: Pass 1: Fresh install from scratch of i386/xfce version of F16 on an ASUS Eee machine. None of the multimdia apps would work as a regular user. Rhythmbox would at least load as a root user, but would crash if I attempted to import a song. Pass 2: Fresh install from scratch of i368/KDE version of f16. Rhythmbox still crashes. yum -y update accomplished both times, using only the default repos. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): see below How reproducible: start rhythmbox via a terminal window - it won't show up, but does display error messages. Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: [sales@bakery2 16]$ rpm -qa|grep gstream gstreamer-0.10.35-1.fc16.i686 qt-gstreamer-0.10.1-2.fc16.i686 gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.30-4.fc16.i686 PackageKit-gstreamer-plugin-0.6.20-1.fc16.i686 gstreamer-python-0.10.19-2.fc15.i686 gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.35-3.fc16.i686 gstreamer-tools-0.10.35-1.fc16.i686 phonon-backend-gstreamer-4.5.1-1.fc16.i686 gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-0.10.22-2.fc16.1.i686 gstreamer-rtsp-0.10.8-1.fc16.i686 [sales@bakery2 16]$ rhythmbox gst-plugin-scanner: malloc.c:3790: _int_malloc: Assertion `(unsigned long)(size) >= (unsigned long)(nb)' failed. gst-plugin-scanner: malloc.c:3790: _int_malloc: Assertion `(unsigned long)(size) >= (unsigned long)(nb)' failed. gst-plugin-scanner: malloc.c:3790: _int_malloc: Assertion `(unsigned long)(size) >= (unsigned long)(nb)' failed. *** glibc detected *** /usr/libexec/gstreamer-0.10/gst-plugin-scanner: free(): invalid next size (normal): 0x089c4930 *** Expected results: Additional info: If anyone is counting, I'm trying anything to stay away from Gnome3, and I'm a professional programmer that's used Fedora since FC2.
Pass 3: Same machine - Asus Eee netbook w/1G Ram, 250G disk. Reinstalled again, this time with Gnome 3 as the DE. Fully patched. Rhythmbox never shows up as a regular user, but it is loaded according to ps -ef. When run from a terminal session, the message it puts out is : *** glibc detected *** /usr/libexec/gstreamer-0.10/gst-plugin-scanner: free(): invalid next size (normal): 0x09b7b8d0 *** /usr/libexec/gstreamer-0.10/gst-plugin-scanner -1 is loaded and everything just sits there. As root, rhythmbox shows up, and is somewhat usable, but randomly causes failures when its asked to import, or play songs from a playlist. Unstable.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '16'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
