Created attachment 538195 [details] /var/log/Xorg.0.log Description of problem: Gnome desktop has bad graphics in the full-screen title bar. Often there are 8 full-width horizontal stripes (each about 2.5 pixels tall) with alternating colors: even stripes in light color, odd stripes in a related dark color. Icons have 1-pixel tall horizontal stripes, often alternating one raster white, one raster black. Individual characters in text (user name, day-of-week, time, etc.) sometimes are OK, sometimes are scrambled like icons. The machine name in the gdm greeter panel (before login) is similarly bad, although other text (user name, "Password", "Session...") is OK. I'm confused. You shouldn't be seeing gnome-shell at all, you're still using the r200 driver. What does glxinfo say?
Created attachment 542093 [details] glxinfo This is what "glxinfo" says from a Terminal under XFCE session. Under GNOME, I cannot get a Terminal with which to run glxinfo. Applications > Favorites > Terminal [click] does nothing. Applications > "te\r" [searching for a Terminal application, then invoking via <Enter>] draws the 1-pixel black outline of the Terminal window and the shadow around it, but does not clear the terminal pane: the background wallpaper (ice cave, floes, vehicle with search light) remains.
Blindly typing "glxinfo >/tmp/foo" into the Terminal under GNOME, the output is the same as attachment 542093 [details] from Comment #4, except: $ diff glxinfo.out foo ## < XFCE : > GNOME 1c1 < name of display: :0.0 --- > name of display: :0 $
Fixed in gnome-session-3.3.2-2.fc17
