Description Guillaume Desmottes 2011-12-01 11:12:27 UTC
Description of problem:
I just installed Fedora 16 on my Lenovo X200s and my internal microphone wasn't working out of the box. I had to use alsamixer to increase is volume (which was 0) in order to use it, which is not very user friendly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
pulseaudio-0.9.23-1.fc16.x86_64

Description of problem:
I installed Fedora 16 on my acer extensa 5635zg and my INTERNAL microphone wasn't
working(external works well).

On ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 all right

Comment 3 Giuseppe Castagna 2011-12-23 12:16:45 UTC
I confirm this problem on my Thinkpad X301. The internal mic is muted by default. The problem is also that it is muted at every reboot. Is it possible to save alsa setting from one boot to another?

Comment 4 Yaroslav 2011-12-24 17:38:25 UTC
The same on Thinkpad t500.

Comment 5 Maxime Ménard-Leroux 2012-01-18 14:47:04 UTC
I have the same issue with my Lenovo X200s.

When I first installed F16 (2 days after release), it was working. But when I tried using it 2 weeks ago, I wasn't getting anything from the internal microphone.

The sound input jack works though.

Comment 6 Spencer 2012-04-23 17:13:12 UTC
Experiencing same issue on my Lenovo x300.

After checking AlsaMixer it appears my internal mic is muted but I can't figure out how to un-mute it.

Also, I can't get my webcam to work either.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Fedora 16 with last updates on extensa 5635zg, internal microphone muted by default after reboot (volume level = 0). I can increase volume in alsamixer (select sound card - HDA Intel instead of default, go to capture settings and increase "Internal Mic" level).

Comment 8 Spencer 2012-04-24 19:27:43 UTC
kotofos, my internal mic is actually 'off', not muted. I'm not able to turn it on by pressing the up key or 'm' key. Is there something I can do to turn it 'on'?

Comment 9 kotofos 2012-05-04 07:56:21 UTC
to Spencer: if, press F6, can you select your sound card?
also, test mic in alsa only

Comment 10 Spencer 2012-05-04 08:21:04 UTC
to kotofos: Yes, I had already selected my sound card in alsa; this is how I discovered it was turned off.

I have still yet to figure out how to turn it 'On'

Comment 11 kotofos 2012-05-04 11:30:53 UTC
in my case, there is some level, which is actually not level, just switch. if i switch it with m key, it will be off

│ Item: S/PDIF [Off]

Comment 12 Spencer 2012-05-04 14:34:48 UTC
kotofos, pressing the 'm' key while toggled on my internal mic does nothing. Any other idea of how to turn it on?

Comment 13 kotofos 2012-05-09 12:16:27 UTC
Test on live cd distro.
No more ideas.

Comment 14 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 14:59:51 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 15 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 16:20:37 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
