Description Roger J. Allen 2011-12-06 18:04:42 UTC
Description of problem:

Fedora 16 Installation Guide - HTML, HTML-SINGLE, and PDF versions

Examples in section E.4.1. use the wrong numbers for the hard disk device number.

"Likewise, GRUB refers to the first partition on the first drive as (hd1,1) and the third partition on the second hard drive as (hd2,3)."

The (hd1,1) should be (hd0,1).
The (hd2,3) should be (hd1,3).

Example in section E.4.2. uses the wrong number for the hard disk device number.

"As an example, the chain loading file in the first partition of the first hard drive would have the following name:

(hd1,1)+1"

The (hd1,1) should be (hd0,1).

Comment 1 Roger J. Allen 2011-12-10 23:13:00 UTC
I changed the title of the bug report to make it simpler.

Comment 2 Karsten Wade 2011-12-14 03:45:17 UTC
Removing myself for these bug components as I'm either no longer involved in that aspect of the project, or no longer care to watch this particular bug. Sorry if you are caught in a maelstrom of bug changes as a result!

Thanks for pointing these out, Roger, and thanks for the patch, Chuck.

I've made these corrections, and also fixed similar partition numbering errors elsewhere in the book ready for F17:

- the 10-linux example in 10.4.6. Is Your RAM Not Being Recognized? ('splashimage=(hd0,0)' now 'splashimage=(hd0,1)')
- the boot stanza example in 12.2. Editing the GRUB Configuration ('set root=(hd0,0)' now 'set root=(hd0,1)')
- in E.6. GRUB Commands - 'such as (hd0,0)/grub/grub.conf.' now 'such as (hd0,1)/grub/grub.conf.'
- also in E.6. GRUB Commands - 'set root=(hd0,0)' now 'set root=(hd0,1)'

These changes can be found in commit d5d72683fcb0d9087601b2dca7744fa84e697100
