Normally drive failures are left undetected and there is no sane way of showing it to the customers right now with the current webgui. There is a need to add sufficient command line tools from various vendors which are normally used like 1. Adaptec 2. 3ware 3. LSILogic etc. Evaluate these tools and add them to Storage Platform build.

Update from ticket 557: Add more diagnostic information for checking disk performance too into the list.
We needed to add twi_client (lsi raid software) to the platform today. I guess, not having raid controller software is not an option. We need to add this ASAP to platform build, even otherwise, at least keep all these tools in one place @ our ftp site.. so one of our support engineer knows where to get them.. It helped today because customer was very technical, otherwise, we could have got in problem.. -Amar
It will not be easy to add these tools into build unless we list down each RAID controllers we are going to support and have proper UI which displays such things. Until then downloading one from their respective hardware vendor site is the only option. I will add few tools as far as i know into the build if its really urgent. Let me know
This needs to come with Resource Monitoring and Control Functionality resolving here.
