Steps to re-produce:-
1) Stop gluster process running
2) Removed /etc/glusterd/*
3) Uninstall glusterfs-core rpm (if installed)
4) Install the glusterfs-core-3.3beta2-1.x86_64.rpm RPM package on CentOS.

3.3beta2 RPM:-

root     24412     1  0 20:42 ?        00:00:00 /opt/glusterfs/3.3beta2/sbin/glusterd
root     24418 24412  0 20:42 ?        00:00:00 [glusterd] <defunct>
root     24420 24207  0 20:42 pts/1    00:00:00 grep gluster

[root@Gluster-Centos Downloads]# gluster
gluster> volume start vol1 replica 2 192.168.2.35:/home/export1 192.168.2.35:/home/export2
24182Connection failed. Please check if gluster daemon is operational.


The Same worked fine for 3.2.4 RPM.
