This warning is caused by the following line: /* Only need to warn if this is used to change the state */ WARN_ONCE(1, "tracing_enabled is deprecated. Use tracing_on"); What used it? A user or a tool. The file /sys/debug/tracing/tracing_enabled is going away. It is much slower than tracing_on and it never did what it was intended to do. I added this warning to find those that are still using it so we can fix those tools and then eventually remove this file.
