Can you try the version in updates-testing and see if the problem persists. 

yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update calibre

calibre-0.8.33-2.fc16.x86_64 crashed in a similar way.

This recipe has some issues for sure. ;( 
I found a newer version that proports to fix this, but it doesn't seem to in quick testing here. 

Will try and get it figured out.

Now I have updated to 0.8.33-2.fc16 from stable updates, and everything seems to work fine (although it is supposedly exactly the same package that I tested earlier).  Hopefully it was something on lwn's end...
