Description Zoltan Hoppar 2012-01-08 09:53:20 UTC
Description of problem:
After very randomly elapsed time - the whole system freezing out and produces an general protection fault 0000 [#1] SMP.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
3.1.6-1.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP

How reproducible:
I couldn't reproduce it, but appears time to time, and I don't know where to look the logfiles.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. I was not able to reproduce it, it appears randomly.

Actual results:
In middle of bunch of running tasks, unexpectedly exits, shows an incomplete debug screen, and freezing out.

Expected results:
No such bug.

Additional info:
The kernel and the video driver is NOT tainted, I don't use any proprietary driver, it's an native fedora gnome 3 install. How can I catch this debug, or log? I really would like to catch this nasty bug.

There should have been a backtrace on the screen after general protection fault 0000 [#1] SMP. We'll need to see that. It might be in /var/log/messages. If not, a digital picture of the screen with the trace is sometimes helpful.

If you aren't seeing the trace itself, try installing kernel-debug and see if that gets more info.

unfortunately, the whole trace didn't hit the log, and there's not enough in that one to go on.

Comment 4 Zoltan Hoppar 2012-01-17 13:04:37 UTC
Hi Guys,

I have received two kernel upgrade also but the bug stays, witch is more weird. Again, this bug appears randomly, sometimes middle of my translation work... After your advice I installed kernel the debug package, in hope that I could catch it - and now finally I have difference: It scrolls the debug output in two screens when died out to terminal with frozen out state (no reaction to any key). So I made 2 pictures as it scrolls on the terminal, please check them - and I will provide any log that's necessary......

if you could run the kernel-debug build at
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=304798 that might turn up
a different trace that might be helpful to us to track this down.

(it's going to be considerably slower than the regular build, due to the extra
checking).
