Description of problem: Beginning with kernel-2.6.32-220.el6.x86_64 sound does not work. All other RHEL6 kernels before had no problems. The last version that works is kernel-2.6.32-131.21.1.el6.x86_64 I've got the latest 5 versions installed. So I'm sure that the kernel itself is the problem since I can boot all of them for testing. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kernel-2.6.32-220.el6.x86_64 kernel-2.6.32-220.2.1.el6.x86_64 How reproducible: Always with kernel-2.6.32-220.el6.x86_64 or later Steps to Reproduce: 1. Try to play any sound or music Actual results: You hear no sound, just silence. No error messages. Couldn't find anything suspicious in dmesg output. If playing back a tune that plays for some minutes I can hear every 10secs or so a very small amount of the music, lets say always about half a second. Please, attach output from 'alsa-info.sh --no-upload'. Eventually, you may try different 'position_fix' and 'enable_msi' module parameters for the 'snd-hda-intel' kernel module.

Since RHEL 6.3 External Beta has begun, and this bug remains unresolved, it has been rejected as it is not proposed as exception or blocker. Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
