Wasn't this related to a missing fix for drools?  Is this correct?  Has it changed?

This is a SOAPClient issue. No drools involved. Please have a look at JBESB-1334 for more details.

I have added the ability to specify field mappings or use the XStream annotated classes.

With these additions you should be able to correctly specify the mappings for using XStream to populate an object graph.
