Launch Firefox 2. type about:plugins Actual results: Among others: video/x-msvideo AVI video asf, wmv video/divx AVI video divx video/mpeg MPEG video mpg, mpeg, mpe audio/mpeg MP3 audio mp3 video/flv Flash video flv video/quicktime QuickTime video mov video/mp4 MPEG-4 video mp4 video/x-m4v MPEG-4 video m4v Expected results: Should be this output expected according to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Forbidden_items ? Or did something changed? And it really decode all that stuff if you try youtube for example. Just don't forget to disable all other relevant plugins (e.g. flashplayer). Additional info: This affects F15 too.
Guess that I was wrong about youtube. It was actually WebM/Vorbis codec, but wasn't easy to verify. Still if these codecs are really not there why it is reported as if they are?

Because the NPAPI plugin API doesn't allow for finer-grained advertisement of features, and mime-types are especially badly designed to advertise video and audio codecs, as they only represent the containers.
