Description Karsten Wade 2012-01-25 20:03:08 UTC
Created attachment 557515 [details]
Output of lspci command.

Description of problem:

I'm starting this here because the ultimate effect is a complete shutdown of GNOME back to the login screen.

I loaded this composite image of the Earth in a Firefox browser tab. As soon as I click over the tab, I can see the image shrunk to fit in the tab, the cursor changes to a zoom tool, then GNOME goes black. A few seconds later I'm back to the login screen for a re-log in.

It's entirely possible that it's a Firefox extension, but wouldn't that just crash Firefox and not the entire desktop?

I'm filing this under gnome-shell, but I suspect it's something deeper. That is because I have killed gnome-shell before when it got stuck, and it just restarted without affecting running app windows.

I can file a complete hardware profile if it helps, but this might be enough. Stock X220 Tablet with Intel Core i7. I'll attach the output of lspci to this report.

After filing this report, I'll attempt to view the same image in Chromium. I'll report back what happens. :)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gnome-shell-3.0.2-6.fc15.x86_64
firefox-9.0.1-1.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:

100% for me so far.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load above URL in to a Firefox browser tab.
2. Click over to the tab.
3. Log in again.

Actual results:

GNOME death.

Expected results:

Amazing close-up detail of a 8000x8000px image of the Earth.

Additional info: N/A

Comment 1 Karsten Wade 2012-01-25 20:04:39 UTC
Successfully loaded and viewed the image in Chromium - chromium-15.0.874.106-1.fc15.x86_64.

I'll try Seamonkey next, since it shares components with Firefox.

Comment 2 Karsten Wade 2012-01-25 20:06:49 UTC
OK, Seamonkey worked the same as Chromium - seamonkey-2.4.1-1.fc15.x86_64

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 17:53:32 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
